Audio interface devices permit a user to send audio signals to a computer for processing, recording, or for further carrying out commands. Audio interface devices like microphones permit users to communicate with computer in order to record any voice message or for the reason to navigate software. Other kinds of audio interface devices are made to input a computer with a CD audio basis, digital audio, or MIDI instrument such as a synthesizer.

Microphones are the most usual audio interface devices and are used with line-in or microphone-in settings inside the recording software package. Most working systems, incorporating Windows, come with essential recording potential built in. You could records spoken messages, oral notes, make audio journals or as well create pod casts. You could further modify sound events on your working system by making your own new wave files.

Apart from recording, audio interface devices are as well used with speech acknowledgment software. Even in this case a microphone is used to communicate with the software. Once the software is trained to identify your voice, it could automatically carry out commands for you other than having to use a keyboard. When you read out a letter, for instance, speech identifying software could decode your spoken words into a written document. This is really versatile for anyone who is not a typist, or who has an associated disability.

Audio interface devices could as well be used to move pre-recorded music to your system. Using CD-in or line-in (depending), you could move tracks from a cassette tape, CD, stereo tuner, or phonograph to your system. Once transferred, the track could be used on a moveable music player, re-burned to a fresh CD of favorites, or added to a digital library.

Audio interface devices add an amazing deal of flexibility and workability to the computer. High-end sound cards may as well offer your more input ports for audio interface devices than budget cards. If you have a fastidious project in mind, discover the possibilities with your current hardware and an apt software package before assuming an upgrade would be necessary. For many projects essential hardware is really adequate.

There are a number of piano keyboards available on the market today but you cannot just go for any old keyboard. You have to know which piano is the best suited for you before you buy it and this, more often than not, depends on the style and the way in which you play your keyboard. Here we will discuss the various styles of keyboard playing and accordingly decide which keyboard to choose. The first style is the Improv style. This is more of what you like to do with your piano and has the least to do with a fixed decorum. If you are someone who, loves to let their fingers rush through the keys on the piano then you are a follower of this style. You love to create a new tune every time and just let your imagination flow. You are an instantaneous player and love to play the more unusual chords. If this is you then the best piano keyboard for you would be the Yamaha CP300 or the Yamaha P70.The second is the classic and the most common one. You are a classical performer when you use the keyboard to play expressively and immerse yourself in the sound of music. You can play your keys soft as well a hard and produce music that just touches the mind. You can fully control the keyboard and love this feeling of power when you do so. The best piano keyboards for you would be the Casio AP500, the Roland F50 and maybe the Yamaha YDPS3.Thirdly, we have the comp style in which you are basically someone to whom music is creativity. More than listening to the sound you love to create music. You love to play around with your keyboard imagining all the impossible sounds that you can only try to make possible. Your choice piano keyboards are the Yamaha MO8 and the Alesis Fusion 8HD.You could also be a rock player or trad player and if you define your self as the same then your choice must be the Roland Juno G, the Clavia Nord Electro or the Yamaha YDP213 and the Korg SP250 piano keyboards respectively.

Nothing can replace an acoustic piano that is in good condition and well maintained. The only good alternative is if the digital piano weighted keys, a much needed feature for technical development. It’s so important that one must be careful when shopping for a digital piano because some salespeople, knowing that it is a requisite, will stretch the truth about what they are selling and the buyer will sometimes end up with less than he or she should have. Unfortunately, I’ve actually been aware of someone making an investment in a digital piano who, after the purchase, claimed “the salesman said the keys were weighted, so I figure it has to be okay.” But sometimes “weighted” is a loose term in the industry, the reason being what I just stated. If you have piano experience and actually know what a weighted action should feel like, then do make sure you use discretion if a digital is a consideration. If you don’t have experience, have someone who does go along with you to play the pianos.

There are a couple of instances where a digital might be beneficial. If you are in an apartment complex and are concerned about disturbing the neighbors, or if you really do not have the wall space to ensure that your piano gets placed near an inside wall as opposed to an outside wall, especially where windows (doors) are nearby. Digital pianos are not really susceptible to climatic changes and they don’t need to be tuned. However, that being said, if it is within your means to own the real thing, then do so.The action is real, the sound is real. Yes, you will have to incur regular maintenance fees, like tuning and some other work from time to time, but well worth it. For years and years, the digital industry has been doing everything it can to “live up to the real thing,” which tells us something.

If I have to choose between buying an acoustic piano or a digital piano what is the best choice? let’s take a look at the different choices if you want to learn to play piano.

Personally I haven’t been forced to make the decision between buying a normal upright piano and a digital piano as I have both in my home. I can see advantages in both types of pianos when practicing the art of learning to play piano.

A normal upright piano produces sounds with hammers that strikes the strings. A digital piano on the other hand tries to duplicate the feeling of playing an acoustic piano.

Most people are familiar with the normal upright piano but what advantages has a digital piano?

First let us describe a digital piano.

A digital piano consists of a keyboard with weighted key action, sensors that detect the velocity when you play the keys and a set of sounds you can choose from. To make it possible to listen to the piano when you play you have an amplifier and loudspeakers and headphone jacks.

Here are some advantages with a digital piano:

1. A digital piano doesn’t need to be tuned. A normal acoustic piano you should tune once or twice a year. If you can’t tune a piano yourself you have to turn to a piano tuner. It can be quite expensive of course. Even a piano tuner has to pay his bills.

2. You can practice silently. A digital piano usually has a headphone jack so by using headphones you can practise as much as you want without disturbing neighbours or family members.

3. Midi interface. A digital piano usually has a midi interface which makes it possible to connect your piano to a computer and use music software like notation programs or a sequenser program or a software synthesizer.

What then are the disadvantages of having a digital piano?

1. The sounds in an acoustic piano are produced by strings vibrating and the different pitches interact in ways that you cannot copy on a digital piano. The sound quality of the sounds produced by digital pianos are becoming better and better but it is still a completely different way of producing sounds.

2. A digital piano is limited when it comes to producing different tone colors by different ways of playing. An accomplished pianist might feel limited by the sampled sounds.

There are many more things to say about choosing a piano but this is a beginning.

As you can see it is not so easy to decide what’s best for you. If you can’t decide what type of piano to buy you can do as I have done. Have both types of pianos and keep smiling.

A digital piano is a modernized version of the electronic piano that was manufactured and sold from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Electronic pianos were based upon synthesized sound as opposed to the mechanical sounds carried by the electric pianos which were sold for awhile in the 1960’s and 70’s.
When the digital piano appeared on the scene in the 1980’s, they began to take the place of the acoustic piano because they were less expensive than acoustic pianos. Comparing a digital piano and an acoustic piano of the same size, the digital piano generally costs much less. Today, the cost savings also continue to add up because the digital piano has no strings; this, in turn, means that it does not have to be tuned. Since the cost of tuning an acoustic piano can run between $75.00 to 175.00 each time the piano is tuned, usually at least once a year, obtaining a digital piano as opposed to an acoustic piano may also be desirable because of the savings in its continued upkeep.
The digital pianos were and are also a bit smaller than their acoustic counterparts making them easy to put into tight places. The feel of the key on the modern digital pianos compares favorably with the acoustic piano, as well. For a pianist, the touch of the keyboard is very important in how that musician plays the instrument. The digital pianos available now are able to simulate the weight of the keys on the acoustic keyboard making them an attractive alternative to the serious musician.
There are other features which make digital pianos very attractive to keyboardists as well. The ability to transpose is available at the touch of a button. For those who sing solos or who sing with other groups, that ability is a very attractive feature, especially when a lot of music is written for sopranos and the person who wants to sing a solo may be an alto or a bass.
Many of the newest digital pianos have the ability to link to a computer or they have a place for a disk on which the keyboardist can record the music for later use. With the advent of digital music players such as Ipods, Zunes, mp3’s, and other equipment, this can be seen as very advantageous for the person who wants to record his or her own playing so that it can be used later at a different venue.
The most important feature is the timbre of the instrument. Timbre has to do with the quality of sound that comes from an instrument. New digital pianos do not have the “tinny” sound that came with early electric and electronic pianos. The timbre of the instruments synthesized into the piano gives a beautiful tone that can even sometimes be deepened or lightened according to the whims of the keyboardist. This is very easily done at the touch of a control wheel or slider on the digital piano.
While most concert halls still used highly crafted acoustic grand pianos, the advent of the digital piano is a great help to people who desire to have pianos in their homes so that their children can learn to play the piano. Since learning to play the piano on an old upright piano of indiscriminate age, having a digital piano has been a delight. It provides for creativity and enjoyment in my home for the listener and the keyboardist. Having access to a piano in the home is one of the greatest joys of my life. I wish that joy for children and adults everywhere.

Digital pianos are a very similar playing experience to an acoustic piano. Although a digital piano uses digitally recorded, or sampled, sounds, rather than a combination of hammers and strings, it can still offer a highly realistic playing feel. The main component of a digital piano is a keyboard with a weighted key action that contains sensors that detect the velocity with which you hit the keys. When you strike piano keys, the loudness of the sound produced is effected by how hard you hit the keys. As the piano is based on samples, a wider range of sounds, such as organs and harpsichords, can be realistically recreated within the piano. What are the benefits of a digital piano?

Digital Pianos are greater value than an acoustic piano with prices starting from £315 for a PDP220 Digital Piano by Gear4music, with professional quality pianos costing well into the thousands. Roland produce a range of advanced digital pianos including the RG-3 Digital Grand Piano with Moving Keys at £8919.

Features to considerIt is important to consider carefully what your needs are before buying a digital piano. Below is a checklist of things to watch out for when shopping for a digital piano.

Other things to think aboutUsing your digital piano for practice in the home makes it worth investing in headphones. Also consider where you will use the piano, and check if it comes with a stool.

With a limited budget and space not everybody can afford the acoustic grand piano. But if you consider your options, a digital piano can very well fill the gaps and work out to be a great substitute for the acoustic grand piano.
Apart from the sound quality that a digital piano offers, there are even greater benefits with one and many of us need the features associated with this digital instrument. That is why it has gradually developed as a popular choice for music lovers.
Initially, it was developed to be an alternative to the acoustic piano. However, the sound producing system it uses is different from the traditional pianos. This digital instrument is based on high quality samples to produce piano sounds.
On broad terms, the better the quality of the samples incorporated in the instrument the more expensive it becomes. An important consideration is the way keyboard touch & feels. For simplicity of playing the device, it needs to have keys, which should feel almost like real keys of an acoustic piano.
The better digital pianos come with graded hammer action which simply means that the keys are heavier on the bass side and get gradually lighter as you move to the right of the keyboard. This is similar to the way the keys feel on a typical acoustic piano.
However, some of them resemble more to a digital keyboard and are designed to be portable. With the lightweight design they can be easily moved around and adds great value as far as ease of mobility is concerned. One of the great advantages is that they come with slot to connect a headphone so that you can practice without disturbing others. With digital pianos there are no maintenance & tuning activities needed.
There are several benefits offered which are equally beneficial for pros and amateurs. We have summarized few of the advantages of having this digital instrument.
* Compared to conventional pianos, these are relatively inexpensive.
* Smaller and considerably lighter, they suit mobility.
* They do not require tuning.
* They usually create several different piano timbres.
* They are much more likely to incorporate a MIDI implementation.
* They may have additional features to assist in learning and composition.
* Most of them include headphone output.
* They often have a transposition feature.

Pianos, for beginning musicians, are one of the essential, first instruments to learn. Just about every type and style of music can be played on a piano. This gives a student a wide variety to choose from and learn from when starting out.
For many students, however, purchasing a traditional piano can be a little out of their budget and they can be quite large. This makes it difficult for someone in a small living space to find room for them. There are other alternatives, such as a digital piano. This is one space saving option. A digital piano comes with the feel of a regular piano but takes up considerably less space. There are also smaller versions for those just beginning.
Types of Pianos
There are a wide variety of digital pianos. Digital pianos range from small keyboards with minimal options like volume and on/off and nothing else to larger digital pianos that can handle remixes and allow synthesized playing, as well as everything in between. There are plenty of different makes, models and variety so that a student can get exactly that he or she needs.
The Advantages of a digital piano
There are a number of advantages of a digital piano that you won’t find with traditional ones. First, of course, is the fact that a digital piano can be a real space saver. It also has the features of volume control and usually comes with a place to put a set of ear phones in. This is great with small apartments or if you want to play without any background noises. It also keeps the piano from being a distraction.
Digital pianos also come with the added benefit, in some models, of allowing you to save your music directly from the machine, either to its internal memory or an external data storage media. Digital pianos often come with additional instrument sounds. This allows you to experiment with different sounds without having to get the different instruments. Another useful feature is that digital pianos, because of their smaller size, are easily transportable.
Disadvantages of a digital piano
There are some disadvantages of having a digital piano. The first and major one is that the sound will always be electronic and never sound as good as the real thing. The value decreases rapidly because every few years a new model comes out. Compared to a real piano, a digital piano’s keys have a lighter touch and a different balance, sometimes making transitioning from digital to real and vice versa, more difficult.
The case for a digital piano can be easily damaged and expensive to repair. So extra care has to be given when moving it around. A digital piano is an electronic device. Like all electronic devices, if something breaks, it can be impossible or very costly to repair.
What to look for when buying a digital piano
When looking to purchase a digital piano there are a few things that need to be considered. First, take a look realistically at what you are going to need and what features you are going to use. There is no reason to spend extra money on a set of features you’ll never touch. So it’s a good idea to figure out what features you are really going to use.
Depending on the type of student you are, you may want to consider features that offer you a full keyboard range or offer a variety of instrument types in order to allow for experimentation. Also, you might want to consider music saving features, so that you can record the music you make for classes. It’s also a good idea to check out the warranty of the digital piano. Most come with limited warranties and only for a short time. If you know you might be hard on your digital piano, getting a digital piano with a longer and more extensive warranty might be something to look into.
Conclusion
Digital pianos are a great way to bring the music of a piano into your home at less expense. They are also great for students to be able to learn on especially with their space saving options and easy transportability. Make sure you know the features you need from your digital piano before you purchase. This is to make sure you get the digital piano that is just right for you.

On broad terms, the better the quality of the samples incorporated in the device the more expensive the digital piano becomes. An important consideration in a digital piano is the way keyboard touch & feels. For simplicity of playing the device, a digital piano needs to have keys, which should feel almost like real keys of an acoustic piano. The better digital pianos come with graded hammer action which simply means that the keys are heavier on the bass side and get gradually lighter as you move to the right of the keyboard. This is similar to the way the keys feel on a typical acoustic piano.
